Eight outstanding races including the Coral Scottish Grand National, the QTS Scottish Champion Hurdle and a new addition a £100,000 Class 2 Open Novices’ Handicap Chase.
And before, during and after racing there is lots of fun and entertainment for the 17,500 crowd to enjoy.
The highlight of the afternoon’s racing is without doubt the Coral Scottish Grand National which with £215,000 in prize-money is the second richest jumps handicap in the UK behind only the Grand National.
This race which sees up to 30 of the country’s top chasers set out on the four mile trip and negotiate 27 fences on the way is also the fourth biggest in terms of betting turnover.
The huge crowd is captivated as the race reaches its climax and the leaders come down the home straight with the noise reaching a crescendo as the last fence is negotiated.
Vicente, trained by champion trainer Paul Nicholls and ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies has won the great race in both 2016 and 2017 becoming the first horse in 32 years to win back to back Scottish Grand Nationals.
Main supporting race on the card is the Class 1 Grade 2 £105,000 QTS Scottish Champion Hurdle, a race that attracts some of the top two mile hurdlers in the land. This race in 2017 produced a nail biting finish with Chesterfield, trained by Seamus Mullins getting up in the shadow of the post to pip Zubayr.
And for the first time this year a new three mile open handicap chase will be run boasting £100,000 in prize-money.
Throughout the afternoon and before racing there is an assortment of quality entertainment including a tribute band in the tented village and jazz bands.
After racing the party continues apace with some top musical entertainment – for all details see the entertainment section on this site.
